Drawing on A6
A6 is for tiny studies, pocket sketchbooks and postcard-size pieces. Work at this scale rewards simple compositions and controlled, deliberate marks.
Typical uses: pocket sketchbooks, postcard drawings, thumbnails.
Usable drawing area with a margin
Most artists leave a margin so the drawing can be mounted and the edges stay clean.
| Margin | Drawing area (mm) | Drawing area (in) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 mm all round | 85 × 128 | 3.35 × 5.04 |
| 20 mm all round | 65 × 108 | 2.56 × 4.25 |
| 30 mm all round | 45 × 88 | 1.77 × 3.46 |

Framing A6
Frames sized exactly to A6 are not universal, so most artists mount the drawing and choose a larger standard frame. With a mount overlapping by roughly 6 mm each side, the visible image (aperture) is about 93 × 136 mm.
Standard frames that leave at least 20 mm of mount border around a A6 sheet:
| Frame | Side border | Top and bottom |
|---|---|---|
| A5 | 27.5 mm | 37 mm |
| A4 | 58.5 mm | 80.5 mm |
| A3 | 102 mm | 142 mm |
| A2 | 163.5 mm | 229 mm |
| A1 | 250.5 mm | 352.5 mm |
